As bracing spans throughout the puberty, orthopaedic specialist often monitors patient’s quality of life by asking them to fill in questionnaires, making sure that there are no drastic changes before, during and after treatment like bracing or surgery. The commonly used questionnaires include Scoliosis Research Society Questionnaire specifically designed for scoliosis patients. Parents can help by noticing if there are any changes about emotions of your child at the start of brace treatment.

Studies have shown that patient’s health-related quality of life can be affected during bracing, though it is only transient. That can be due to the new brace which the patient needs to get used to, or peer pressure when wearing brace at school for instance. It is worthwhile for the patient who is just prescribed with bracing to see the clinical psychologist, depending on the various emotional status a child is at during his/her pubertal growth.
